China has neither worked with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) nor helped the country in any way to develop its nuclear programme.

Wang Yiren, head of China's Atomic Energy Agency made the remark on the sidelines of a nuclear energy conference in Beijing on April 20.

Mr Yiren stated that China has never cooperated with the DPRK to develop nuclear power, adding that China had always agreed to peaceful solutions through dialogue and negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue in the Korean peninsula.

Earlier on April 16, China called on all parties involved in the six-party talks to keep “calm and restrained” when solving the nuclear issue in Korea after the DPRK expelled a team of international inspectors from the country.

In 2008, two-way trade between China and the DPRK reached the record figure of US$2.9 billion, up 41 percent compared to 2007.
