Vietnam and Laos are enjoying a blossoming relationship, helping strengthen ties between the two countries’ localities, State President Nguyen Minh Triet said while receiving the visiting Governor of Laos’ Phongsaly province, Khamsan Souvong, in Hanoi on March 11.

Vietnam’s increasing investment in Laos signals the fine development of economic and trade cooperation between the neighbouring countries, the State leader said.

Laos’ northeastern provinces, which include Phongsaly and the northwestern provinces of Vietnam should strengthen their cooperation in order to develop their economies and improve the living conditions of local residents, he said.

The Governor of Phongsaly province’ expressed hope that his first working visit to the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho would create new investment opportunities for both sides.
He also thanked the Vietnamese State, Party and people for the assistance they have extended to Laos during its socio-economic development process.

Vietnam’s provision of a preferential loan to upgrade the Tay Trang route has created favourable conditions for trade activities across the border between Laos and Vietnam, he said.
Phu Tho province has provided US$100,000 to build schools in Phongsaly province.
