The International Sports Movies and Television Festival FICTS-Vietnam 2008 came to a close at the Hanoi Opera House on June 8.

The festival attracted over 60 pieces of work from 13 cinema and television companies nationwide and six other countries including China, Singapore, Bangladesh, Iran, Romania and Australia. The works chosen from the festival will be shown at the 26th International Sports Movies and Television Festival in Milan city, Italy from October 31 to November 5.

First prize at the event was won by the film “Road to Everest” produced by Ho Chi Minh Television Choice Centre (HTVC). The documentary to take first spot was an Iranian film called “Football, a place with no judge”. There were no first prizes for scientific education entries but second prize was given to “Echipia”, a Romanian Action Television Production.

There were also no first prizes for commercials, commentaries, game shows, talk shows and TV shows, only one second prize was taken by Bangladesh’s film called “Krishoker Eid Anando” by Impress Telefilm Ltd.

The same happened in the cartoon genre with one second prize going to Iran’s film “Smart and outsmart”. For feature films, first prize was given to “Mai Mai ti’s 2008” produced by the China Film promotion international.

Tran Gia Thai, vice-chairman of the organizing board, commented that most of the works entered at the festival this year were focused on the specific characteristics of individual sports. Some films highlighted the feelings of athletes, in particular, handicapped athletes overcoming difficult training to achieve success.
