Vietnam earned US$152 million from exporting 110,000 tonnes of pepper in 2005, making up 50 percent of the world’s market share. Thirty-five percent of the total amount was high-quality (white) pepper, according to the Vietnam Pepper Association.

Vietnamese pepper has been exported to 73 countries and territories around the world, mainly to the US, European Union countries and the Middle East.

However, the association said the price of Vietnamese pepper is still a few hundred US dollar per tonne lower than that of other countries.

According to the association, global pepper prices are expected to be comparatively stable in 2006.
