Spanish companies can capitalise on the Vietnamese highly potential market, especially in the construction area, said a Spanish high-ranking trade official following his recent tour of Vietnam with representatives of 35 enterprises to seek partners.

Director General of Information and Investments of the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) Mario Buisan was quoted by Spain’s EFE news agency as saying that all but 35 enterprises in his delegation found what they had expected from meetings with 130 Vietnamese partners during the Spain-Vietnam Investment and Business Cooperation Forum opening in Ho Chi Minh City from February 28-29.

Meanwhile, ICEX President Pedro Mejia Gomez said he would like to see the increased presence of Spanish companies in a wide range of areas including tourism, financial services, industrial engineering and renewable energies. He also noted that infrastructure projects in Vietnam, including a metro project in Ho Chi Minh City, draw the greatest attention from Spanish investors.

Vietnam exported some EUR900 million worth of items, including footwear, textiles and garments and paving stones to Spain every year and imported EUR250 million worth of machinery from the European country, the Spanish news agency reported.
