Delegates to the 35th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) have spoken highly of Vietnam’s policies and measures to deal with the global financial crisis, regarding them as useful models for other developing nations.

The session took place in Paris from July 1-7, attracting more than 300 delegates from 50 APF member countries.

The Vietnamese delegation actively participated in joint activities of the Assembly and its Executive Bureau, its Network of Women Parliamentarians, and its Standing Committees such as the Political Committee, the Education, Communication, and Cultural Affairs Committee, and the Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

During discussions, the President of the Vietnam Section, Ngo Quang Xuan spoke on the impact of the global financial crunch on Vietnam and its experience in coping with the crisis.

The Vietnamese delegation also talked about promoting the French language in the face of the increasing influence of English.

During the session, Mr Xuan was elected APF Vice President. The Vietnam Section has continuously held this position since 1997. Vietnam has actively operated within the APF’s framework and has helped improve cooperation between regional sections of the APF.

On the sidelines of the session, the Vietnamese section met with its Lao and Cambodian counterparts to review their recent activities and discuss future cooperation.
