New horizon for radio and television

The eighth Asia Media Summit (AMS 8) will be a good opportunity for the development of the new media with the leading role of radio and television.

Yang Binyuan, Director of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) emphasised this at an interview granted to a VOV reporter about the summit.

Following are excerpts from the interview:

Reporter: Why did the organizer decide to choose “Digital Media Everywhere: Repositioning Broadcasting” as the theme of this year’s summit?

AIBD Director Yang Binyuan
Mr. Binyuan: We decided to choose this subject because there are great challenges facing us as we are trying to shift from analogue to digital equipment.

AIBD is organizing this summit for broadcasters from all over the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Africa, and Arab States to discuss this important topic to help them make this transition.

Reporter: We think that we are facing many challenges, such as in capacity building and training strategy in the digital era. What is your view about this?

Mr. Binyuan: There are many challenges to broadcasters in the Asia-Pacific region who are running short resources needed for the digital transition in terms of content, technology, capacity building and business operation. So we want to provide a platform for broadcasters from all over the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, to exchange ideas and share their knowledge to promote their broadcasting development.

Reporter: What is the role of radio and television in the context of new media development?

Mr. Binyuan: Radio and Television are facing many challenges in the new media era with the development of internet and mobile services, which is having a great impact on today’s society. So Radio and Television should utilize the advantages provided by the new media to continue their leading role in the public service broadcasting and society.

Reporter: This is the first time AMS will be held in Hanoi. What do you think of VOV preparations for the summit?

Mr. Binyuan: We are confident to work with VOV although this is the first time AMS will be held in Hanoi. I believe we are working hard in the next two months to make the summit a great success.

Reporter: What is your expectation of the summit?

Mr. Binyuan: I hope all delegates will take this great opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from each other to provide a new horizon for everybody in the eras of new technology to make their work more efficient.

Reporter: Thank you very much!
