Vietnam calls for int’l law enforcement in East Sea

All activities of concerned parties in the East Sea should strictly comply with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), said a Foreign Ministry spokesman.

In response to reporters’ question about Vietnam’s stance towards China’s recent move to allow large numbers of fishing vessels to operate in Vietnam’s territorial waters in the East Sea, spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi said any activity should be in accordance with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and with respect for sovereignty, sovereign and jurisdictional rights of nations, thus contributing to maintaining peace, stability in the region and protecting sea environment and resources.
