Solemn ceremony to mark 65th anniversary of VOV

Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) held a ceremony at its headquarters in Hanoi on September 6 to celebrate its 65th anniversary and receive the second Ho Chi Minh Order.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, and various representatives from ministries, former leaders of VOV, and international friends.

On behalf of all VOV staff, VOV Director General Vu Van Hien reviewed the glorious history of VOV over the past 65 years.

Mr Hien stressed that VOV has become a pioneering media group and a reliable friend of all the people.

He said that in the wars of resistance against French colonialists and US invaders, VOV was the only press agency delivering the Party’s directives and lines to all areas of the country, especially to Vietnamese patriots and fighters in southern Vietnam. VOV’s radio programmes encouraged the people and the army to struggle for national independence and expose the enemy’s crimes while winning support from international friends.

During the renewal (Doi Moi) process, VOV constantly improved the quality of its broadcasts and built its five radio channels into modern ones that cater for all social groups with a total airtime of 300 hours per day, Mr Hien said. The national broadcaster also recently launched its news website and newspaper that have helped extend the coverage of VOV, he added.

So far, VOV has finished the first phase of a project to cover the East Sea and activate its National Radio Centre. Recently, the national radio station has successfully launched its VOVTV service with 12 programmes and bulletins per day and a highly interactive VOV Traffic Information channel that has received a great deal of positive feedback from listeners.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung congratulated VOV on its achievements over the past 65 years. He said that VOV has reflected political, economic, cultural and social events in a timely and standardized manner and played an important role in foiling plots and sabotages by hostile forces. The Deputy PM expressed hope that in future, VOV will continue to uphold its role as an important multimedia agency for the Party and State and serve as a bridge between the State and people.

On behalf of the Party and State, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung pinned the Ho Chi Minh Order to the traditional flag of VOV.

The same day, Director General Vu Van Hien received international delegates, including those from the Cambodian Information Ministry, the Laotian Ministry of Information and Culture, Radio Voice of Russia, and Thai singers.
