Swiss President Pascal Couchepin will pay an official visit to Vietnam in early August at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

The announcement was made by the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Dung at a regular press conference in Hanoi on July 24.


The visit aims to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries, especially in the field of education and training, science and technology, investment and trade.

 

DPRK foreign minister makes first visit to Hanoi

Mr Dung also announced that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun will pay official visit to Vietnam from July 25-27 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Gia Khiem.


This is the first Vietnam visit by FM Pak Ui Chun after he took office in May 2007.


During the visit, both sides will discuss measures to implement the signed agreements in order to strengthen and promote the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries. They will also discuss international and regional issues of common concern.

 

Japanese FM arrives for bilateral meeting

Japanese foreign minister Komura Masahiko will arrive in Hanoi on July 25, beginning his official visit to Vietnam. He will co-chair the second session of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee.


This is the first Vietnam visit by foreign minister Komura Masahiko after he took office.


Spokesperson Dung said that at the coming session, Vietnam and Japan will consider cooperative areas, review the implementation of agreements signed at the first meeting, discuss measures to promote the implementation of high-level agreements between the two countries, and strengthen cooperation between the two ministries.
