Various activities have been launched in many provinces and cities across the country to celebrate Vietnam Teachers’ Day (November 20).

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc along with teachers from Hai Phong Maritime University celebrated Vietnam Teachers’ Day on November 20.

Mr Phuc praised the university’s achievements in education and training that have contributed to the country’s marine based economy. He called on the university to improve the quality of education and training and student’s professional skills toward the goal of international integration in developing the marine-based economy

He presented the Labour Order and the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit to the university’s teachers in recognition of their good performance in management and education and training.

**** The Ministry of Education and Training, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, organized a programme in Hanoi on November 19 to honour outstanding young teachers from schools in mountainous areas of 19 provinces.

In his speech, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan highlighted their great teaching efforts, despite many difficulties they face in their distant locations.

Over the past few years, the Party and State have adopted educational development policies such as allocating 20 percent of the State budget to education, building more classrooms, dormitories and providing financial support for poor pupils.

An inter-generational exchange was also held among former students and teachers.

On this occasion, each teacher received awards from the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, a savings book worth VND5 million from the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) and an insurance book from the Post Insurance Joint Stock Corporation PTI.

*** In the central highlands province of Dak Nong, provincial leaders visited and presented gifts to teachers in remote and border areas, praising them for overcoming every difficulty to fulfil their tasks and improve the quality of local education.

Dak Nong’s Education and Training Department held a sports festival from November 17-19 to mark this special day. The event attracted nearly 500 teacher athletes from provincial education offices and schools. They competed in a variety of events, including badminton and volleyball. 109 individuals and collectives won prizes at the festival.

The Alumni Liaison Board of the N’Trang Long Ethnic Boarding School organized a get-together for former teachers and former students living in Dak Nong. The gathering brought back unforgettable memories from their time studying and teaching at the school. On the occasion, they also contributed VND10 million to building the N’Trang Long Hero Monument.

*** The Hung Vuong High School in the central highlands province of Gia Lai has always been considered a pioneer in Gia Lai’s education sector. Thanks to intensive investment in training, the number of excellent pupils at the national level has seen a year-on-year increase. During this academic year, the school earned 19 national prizes and 40 Olympic medals. Over the past three years, Hung Vuong has been the only school in Gia Lai to have 100 percent of its pupils pass their high school graduation examination. It has 17 teachers with MA degrees and 80 teachers with BA degrees.

For its tremendous achievements, Hung Vuong was awarded the Labour Order, first class, by the State President.

*** On November 19, schools in Da Nang city held various activities to mark Teachers’ Day. During the last school year, Danang’s Education and Training Department was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister. 18 schools in the city have been recognized for achieving national standards and 56 units have been granted the title of good labour collectives.

Meanwhile, the Political School in Danang organized a ceremony to receive the Labour Order, first class, from the State in recognition of its contributions to training human resources in politics, administration and State management.

The Sports Centre in Danang held a meeting with teachers who also coach, and foreign trainers. This year, the centre joined 85 national tournaments, bagging a total of 135 gold, 136 silver and 194 bronze medals.
