A project to develop sustainable tourism in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) will be carried out over five years in the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Bac Kan, and central coastal Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.

These provinces have a high poverty rate, but the great potential for tourism development.

The US$11.11 million project is just part of the common development strategy of the six GMS countries which prioritizes Vietnam and Laos to promote transport links within the East – West economic corridor, tap into natural potential resources, develop commerce and tourism and reduce poverty.

The project with capital sourced from the Asian Development Bank aims to build tourism development and poverty reduction models in these provinces.
