An exchange programme for those suffering social disadvantages was launched at Hanoi's Thong Nhat (Unification) Park on December 3 with the participation of some 2,000 people.

Called "For The Love of Life", the humanitarian event was held for disabled people, people living with HIV/AIDS, and volunteers and social workers.

As part of the event, there were some 40 stalls displaying products made by disabled people, information booths about organisations who work with the disabled and people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as other activities.

On this occasion, the Organising Board coordinated with the National Co-ordinating Council on Disabilities of Vietnam ( NCCD), the Steering Committee on Information Technology and the Electronics and Informatics Magazine to present to the disabled the first 20 of 1,000 locally made computers.

The programme was held by associations for the disabled of Vietnam and Hanoi in coordination with the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the UN Volunteers programme (UNV).

It was part of activities in response to calls from the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on the occasion of the World AIDS Day (December 1), the UN World Volunteer Day (December 5) and the imminent approval of the Draft UN Convention on the right of Disabled Persons.
