A seminar on the preservation of world heritages was held in the ancient town of Hoi An, central Quang Nam province, on August 7 with the participation of Japanese researchers and Hoi An town's representatives.

Many reports on experiences and results in the preservation and restoration work of Vietnamese and foreign organisations were presented at the seminar, which was part of the fourth annual Vietnam-Japan Cultural Exchange Festival.

In recent years, Hoi An has made achievements in preserving, restoring and promoting its tangible and intangible cultural values.

The town has implemented many scientific research projects and issued regulations on the management of historical sites, and strengthened international cooperation for sustainable development of historic sites.

Hoi An has also invested billions of VND in restoring historic sites and upgrading infrastructure such as water supply, drainage systems and underground power lines.

Since it was recognised as a world cultural heritage in 1999, the ancient town of Hoi An has welcomed nearly 3 million visitors, including 1.3 million international tourists.
