With well-known players like Kien Quoc, Nam Hai and Tuan Quynh, the Vietnam men’s team got off to a good start on the opening day, as they won two 3-0 victories over two rivals in group B - Malaysia and Australia. The team is likely to be sole qualifiers for the second round, if they defeat India on July 13.

In the meantime, the Vietnam women’s teams did not start well. Mai Xuan Hang, Mai Hoang My Tranh, and Luong Thi Tam quickly lost 0-3 overall to strong players from Korea B. The Vietnam junior men’s team has also been eliminated from the tourney after being defeated by Singapore A and Hong Kong. The Vietnam junior women’s team also fared no better while playing Singapore B and Korea A.
