Among twenty-two solo winners and five winning bands, Do Hong Linh, Tran Yen Nhi and Tong Duc Cuong were recognised as the best solo pianists, Nguyen Thien Minh, Nguyen Thi Huyen Anh and Tran Chung Duy as the most outstanding solo violinists and the five-member woodwin band as the best in chamber music category.

In addition to the main prizes awarded by the jury, there were two categories presented specially to Tran Thai Linh and Nguyen Hoang Tung for the best performers in a group setting.

The winners defeated more than 100 artists from four largest music colleges namely the Hanoi National Conservatory of Music, the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, the Hue Arts College and the Hanoi Arts School. Of the four participating colleges, the Hanoi National Conservatory took the majority of the prizes.

Half of the contestants participated in the piano solo contests, making it the most competitive category. But contestants in the violin solo and chamber music categories were required to play a Vietnamese piece that had never been performed before. The round was to encourage young musicians to write symphonies, according to the organisers.
