As many as 41 Vietnamese engineers were granted ASEAN qualifying certificates on January 29 by the Vietnam Engineer Registration Council, following the ASEAN Engineer Registration Programme.

The programme was launched in 1998 by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) to improve the professionalism of engineers in member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The ASEAN Engineers Register (AER), an affiliate of AFEO, has been trusted to conduct the registration of eligible engineers.

Qualified engineers must have an engineering degree, official membership of an engineers' organisation or techicians' organisation, permits to work in their countries, in addition to at least seven years of professional experience.
