Orbis International, a non-profit humanitarian organisation based in the US, has pledged US$494,000 to improve eye care and treatment for the residents of northern Ninh Binh province.

An agreement to this effect was signed by the organization and the provincial People's Committee on October 12.

Over the past ten years, Orbis has provided free optical check-ups to nearly 1.6 million people, eye treatment for 406,000 and eye surgery to 6,000 in Vietnam.

During the period, more than 10,500 medical workers received eye care training and over 1,800 eye doctors were trained both inside and outside of the country with assistance from Orbis.

Orbis is dedicated to preventing blindness, providing treatment and educating the public on how to protect their eyes.
