Vietnam pledges to cooperate with other United Nations member countries in their efforts to reform the UN General Assembly’s operations, stated Deputy Chief Permanent Representative of Vietnam Nguyen Tat Thanh at the UN Assembly General in New York on November 26.

According to Mr. Thanh, priority should still be given to the General Assembly reshuffle, which is the focus of the UN’s comprehensive reform programme and Vietnam shares views with other member countries that they have much to do to raise the role of the General Assembly and implement the body’s resolutions more effectively.

The Vietnamese diplomat also said that the General Assembly needs to closely cooperate with the UN’s major organisations and commissions, international institutions and social organisations in order to fully implement the functions of each organization without any overlapping.

It is neccessary to quickly establish a group of experts in charge of the General Assembly reform, Mr Thanh said, adding that UN member countries must actively participate in extensive discussions to find appropriate and practical measures for the reform of the General Assembly.
