Creative and charming fashion designs from eighteen competitors hit the stage on the final night of the 2008 VietNam Collection Grandprix held in Hanoi on September 28.

Luong Thi Minh Hoa from Ho Chi Minh City won first prize at the contest, receiving VND30 million and a scholarship to study fashion design in Japan. The jury also presented other prizes for impression, new technique, designer of the year and up and coming designers.

Also on the final night, nine designers, who have won prizes in the previous contests, showed their latest 90 designs to mark the 10th anniversary of the VietNam Collection Grandprix.

With the title “New World”, this year’s event saw 6,500 entries from 925 fashion desingers. According to designer Truong Anh Vu, one of the jury members, the designs on show have kept pace with the world’s fashion trends.

Speaking at the event, Vu Duc Giang, general director of the Vietnam National Textiles and Garments Group (VINATEX), stressed that the contest does not only help to find many useful individuals for the country’s fashion industry, but also gives young designers a chance to test their skills, develop their career and exchange their experiences.

Launched in 1999 by VINATEXT, the VietNam Collection Grandprix has become one of the most important fashion design contests in Vietnam as it has discovered almost 70 designers who have made significant contributions to the development of the fashion industry in Vietnam over the past 10 years.
