Khanh Hoa urged to focus on marine economy
(VOV) - The central province of Khanh Hoa should fully tap into the advantages of its marine economy, transport services, aquaculture and seafood processing to attract more investment in the province’s industrial parks.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made this request at a working session with provincial authorities to examine the socio-economic status in the province and review some proposals to improve the current situation.
PM Dung praised Khanh Hoa’s efforts in 2012 and the first quarter of this year, noting that its GDP growth rate reached 8.5 percent and per capita income jumped to US$ 1,900. More than 26,500 new jobs were also created during the reviewed period while the number of poor households fell to 5.56 percent.

The province’s GDP grew by 7.37 percent in the first quarter of 2013. Agricultural and fishery production has maintained steady growth while improvements were seen in exports, tourism, budget revenues, political security and social order and safety.
Khanh Hoa should devise solutions to ease difficulties facing businesses and support the local market by adopting appropriate policies aimed at attracting non-State investment capital for high technology and high value added products.
Dung pointed out that it is essential for Khanh Hoa to focus on effectively implementing national target programmes on building new rural areas and reducing poverty to improve people’s living standards.
The Government is ready to create the best possible conditions for Khanh Hoa to exploit its potential and advantages to reach the set socio-economic targets, the government leader said.
The PM asked Khanh Hoa to mobilize all its resources to improve its infrastructure, ensure social welfare, and develop the provincial healthcare and education systems, in addition to dealing with denunciations and complaints, combating crime and social evils, and reducing the number of traffic accidents.
PM Dung, along with leaders of various ministries and sectors, also gave their opinions on Khanh Hoa’s proposals related to three key projects in the province.
