Vietnam’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cao Duc Phat, and the head of China’s National Forestry Bureau, Jia Zhibang, signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of agriculture in Hanoi on September 17.

The two sides agreed to trade experience in forest development; work to resolve forestry issues such as deforestation, climate change, fire control, and technology sharing; and promote public awareness of environmental protection.

At the signing ceremony, Minister Phat praised this cooperation, which is so important in coping with climate change and the desertification of land.

He noted that every year the Vietnamese government spends about VND1,000 billion on forestry projects. Working with local administrations, businesses and volunteers, Vietnam’s forest coverage has been increased to 40 percent.

Mr Zhibang said China is committed to forging closer ties with Vietnam in the field of forestry. Since 1994, the two sides have carried out regular exchanges in this field.
