The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Vietnamese government signed a non-refundable aid agreement worth US$800,000 on March 14 to improve irrigation and drainage infrastructure in Vietnam.

The aid package comes from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction and is managed by ADB.

It is part of ADB’s efforts to help the Vietnamese government better use the country’s natural resources, boost agricultural development, and provide more jobs and reduce poverty in rural areas.

The grant will support a project to improve water resources infrastructure for 50,000 hectares in the northern provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, and Bac Ninh.

This project will also promote the training of irrigation and drainage company personnel and those who engage in water resources infrastructure management.
