Minister for the National Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council of Oman, Ahmed bin Abdul Nabi Macki will pay an official visit to Vietnam from April 15-19.

Oman is an economically strong country in the Middle East as well as in the Persian Gulf, mostly based on large petroleum and gas reserves.

Vietnam and Oman established diplomatic ties at the ambassadorial level on June 9, 1992 and have exchanged high-ranking visits. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung visited Oman in December 2007, the Omani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Vietnam in May 2004 and the Omani Minister for the National Economy and the Minister of Commerce, Trade and Minerals visited Vietnam in May 2007.

Both countries signed an agreement on aviation cooperation in June 2003, a trade agreement in May 2004 and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labour cooperation in December 2007.

Despite limited economic cooperation between Vietnam and Oman, there is a rapidly growing tendency towards stronger bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and oil and gas.

The Omani Economic Minister’s visit aims to further strengthen bilateral relations, review the implementation of agreements and MoUs signed between the two countries and discuss measures to boost bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, industry and energy including oil and gas.
