Nam Phan, 28, will be the first Vietnamese-American athlete to compete at the UFC, a mixed martial arts event comprising boxing, Thai muay and karate.

Phan, 1.68m tall and 66kg in weight, will compete against Mike Brown in the lightweight boxing event and he hopes to create a phenomenon at the competition, which is often won by bigger athletes.

Nam Phan’s parents are both Vietnamese and he has been training at a martial arts institute in Garden Grove, California.

The young athlete has won 16 and lost nine of his previous matches. The upcoming UFC match is expected to be breakthrough in his professional career.
