Vietnam and Uruguay officially signed an agreement after concluding bilateral negotiations on Vietnam’s entry to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva on January 24.

The signatories were Ambassador Ngo Quang Xuan, chief of the Vietnamese mission
to the United Nations and international organisations in Geneva, and Ambassador Guillermo Valles Galmes, chief of the Uruguay mission to the WTO.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Ambassador Ngo Quang Xuan emphasised that Uruguay is the first country in 2006, to have concluded bilateral negotiations with Vietnam. This will encourage other partners to make breakthroughs in supporting Vietnam’s accession to the WTO.

Ambassador Guillermon considered the signed agreement as a present to celebrate Vietnam’s traditional Lunar New Year Festival and hoped that Vietnam will become a WTO member soon.
