Vietnamese health officials on October 1 confirmed 202 more cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection, bringing the nation’s total number of patients to 9,260, including 16 deaths.

Deputy Health Minister Trinh Quan Huan said all suspected cases should be treated at district-level hospitals, even at communal infirmaries, to reduce the number of deaths.

Vietnam has ordered 5 million doses of A/H1N1 flu vaccine from foreign countries. Health workers involved directly in the prevention and control work, and pregnant women and those with chronic diseases will be prioritised to be vaccinated.

The epidemic has now spread to 59 out of the country’s 63 provinces and cities, with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Lam Dong recording the largest numbers of patients.
