Vietnamese and Chinese officials shared experiences in coping with the global financial crisis at the 5th theoretical workshop which opened in the Chinese city of Xia Men, Fu Jian province, on December 12.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by To Huy Rua, a Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Vietnamese Party Commission for Information and Education.

The Chinese delegation was headed by Liu Yunshan, a Chinese Party Politburo member and member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the Party Central Committee.

Mr Rua presented an in-depth analysis of the characteristics, causes, scope and impact of the crisis, as well as lessons Vietnam has drawn from riding out the storm and requirements for cooperation in theoretical study between Vietnam and China.

He noted that assessing the true nature of the crisis and analysing solutions to learn lessons will be useful when formulating guidelines and strategies for socio-economic development in each country.

Mr Liu presented China’s viewpoint on the crisis, solutions, initial successes and practical lessons learnt from surmounting the crisis. He said that weathering the turbulence and maintaining economic recovery is the common task of all economies and an urgent task for the Chinese and Vietnamese communist parties.

He said an increase in the exchange of information and experience between the two parties is of great significance for exploring the rules of socialist construction in the context of economic globalisation to promote mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.

The workshop will continue until December 14.
