Cooperation between the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Lao Women’s Union (LWU) has made significant contributions to national construction and development in each nation and the region, said VWU President Ha Thi Khiet.

While receiving a VWU delegation led by its President Sisay Leudedmounsone in Hanoi on October 24, Ms Khiet congratulated the LWU on the results of its recent fifth congress and expressed her belief that under the leadership of the new Executive Board, the LWU will make greater achievements to the advancement and development of women, as well as national development.

Mrs Khiet spoke highly of the live televised programme between Hanoi and Vientiane on October 19, which she said manifested the special solidarity, time-honoured friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The two women organisations should cooperate closely to cope with challenges and difficulties such as unemployment, social evils, trafficking in women and children and HIV/AIDS pandemic, said Mrs Khiet.

President Sisay thanked the VWU for its assistance to the LWU in exchange programmes to promote women’s advancement, hunger and poverty reduction efforts. She underscored the need to expand exchanges between the two organisations to promote mutual understanding.

The LWU delegation began a four-day visit to Vietnam on October 23.
