The Light Daily, a Khmer language newspaper that has the largest circulation in Cambodia, in its March 11 and 12 editions carried articles on Vietnam’s increased investment in Cambodia.

Vietnam, which is not Cambodia’s biggest foreign investor, has made efforts to increase its economic and investment activities in the country, the daily said.

Huynh Van Minh, Director of the Saigon Trading Company, was quoted by the daily as saying that his company plans to build two food and seafood processing establishments in Cambodia and pour investment capital into a hospital project in Phnom Penh.

The Vietnam Rubber Corporation, which is implementing a rubber tree plantation project in Cambodia, has set a target of planting 200,000 hectares of rubber trees in the country by 2015, an official of the corporation said, adding that the corporation has already planted 4,000 hectares.

Vietnam now ranks 10th among Cambodia’s foreign investors, but it is one of Cambodia’s largest importers, according to the daily.
