The A/H1N1 flu pandemic is easing with the number of suspected and positive cases declining drastically in recent weeks, said National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemilogy director Nguyen Tran Hien.

He made the statement at a weekly meeting of the steering committee for A/H1/N1 flu prevention on January 13.

“The rate of people confirmed positive for the A/H1N1 virus among suspected cases in hospitals has reduced to 30 percent and only 4 percent of samples in laboratories tested positive,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan said that prevention activities will still be under taken nationwide to prevent both A/H5N1 and A/H1N1 flu spreading along with foot-hand-mouth diseases in the spring.

He asked the World Health Organisation to send vaccines to Vietnam.

“The vaccine will be used for high-risk groups only, including pregnant women and medical staff,” he said.
