Vietnam, Japan foster friendship and cooperation

(VOV) - Japanese Consul General in HCM City Hida Harumitsu highlighted Vietnam-Japan relations at a September 27thceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties in southern KienGiang province.

The Japanese guest restated the importance of the 2013 Vietnam-Japan Friendship Year to deepening mutual understanding and successful business and investment interactions.

Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee Vice President Mai Van Huynh reviewed some of the diplomatic milestones in the 40-year history of the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

Consul General Harumitsu thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their generous support in the wake of 2011’s devastating earthquake and tsunami in his country. He voiced delight at the enduring strength of the friendship no matter the international political and economic context.

KienGiang Province has signed a cooperative agreement with Kobe City. Japanese interests worked with Foster Vietnam Electronics Company to build a VND12 billion factory specialising in mobile phone component assembly.

The province has also coordinated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)on a VND6,100 billion waste treatment and drainage system project on PhuQuoc Island, partly funded by Japanese ODA.
