Increased defence cooperation boosts Vietnam-Thailand relations

(VOV) - Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh said on April 20 that bilateral defence cooperation has transformed the alliance between Vietnam and Thailand.

At a reception for visiting Chief of Defence of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Worapong Sanganetra in Hanoi, Thanh said defence cooperation has enabled two countries’ forces to ‘cooperate seamlessly’ to respond to challenges around the globe.

General Sanganetra in turn echoed Thanh’s view and said that bilateral ties have provided the cohesion for improving cooperation across a host of fields and helps the two nations respond flexibly to the full scope of challenges we face.

He briefed his host on the results of talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty.

In addition, the two sides discussed the current status of defence and security other issues of mutual concern.

They reviewed defence cooperation over recent times and exchanged relations promotion measures with a focus on exchange visits, personnel training and joint sea patrols.

They also agreed to closely coordinate to effectively implement signed agreements to elevate defence ties more deeply in line with the strategic partnership between the two countries.
