A Vietnamese delegation, headed by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh, has successfully concluded its visit to France, opening a new chapter in bilateral ties in tourism, culture and sports between the two countries.

Minister Anh granted an interview to VOV about this visit.

What was the purpose of your visit to France?

The visit aimed to boost cooperation between Vietnam and France in culture, sports and tourism. On this occasion, we sought to join France in promoting the image of both nations to pave the way for raising bilateral ties between the two nations to a higher level.

What was discussed in relation to bilateral cooperation during meetings with the French leader and partners?

The French ministers were very cordial. The meetings helped us create deeper and more substantial bilateral cooperation. We agreed on a number of fundamental issues related to the strategic partnership between Vietnam and France by building cultural centres in both countries.

We thanked the French government and people and the French ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for supporting Vietnam in seeking UNESCO’s recognition of the Thang Long royal citadel as a world cultural heritage site. We also mentioned our plan to submit a dossier on the Ho Dynasty citadel to UNESCO for consideration as a world cultural heritage site.

We also asked France to assist in the collection of documents concerning Thang Long, Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and its heritage sites.

In the field of culture, French Minister of Culture and Communication Frederic Mitterrand proposing signing a cooperation agreement on cinematography with Vietnam under which, France would create a fund for Vietnam to make films and bring them to major international film festivals.

The French side was also keen to cooperate with Vietnam in music, dance, and other art forms.

French Secretary of State for Tourism Frederic Lefebre affirmed that he will join hands with Vietnam to promote tourism and will ask the French government to launch more flights to bring French and European tourists to Vietnam.

France currently has 14 tourism projects in Vietnam and as many as 200,000 French tourists arrive in Vietnam each year.

France has also agreed to help Vietnam plan tourism development and train hotel and tourism managers and staff.

While staying in France, the Vietnam delegation insisted on voting Ha Long Bay as one of the new natural wonders of the world.
