The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee approved the amendments to the draft Ordinance on the Vietnam Marine Police and the draft Ordinance on the Defence Industry at its fifth session that ended on January 26.

The draft Ordinance on the Vietnam Marine Police, which took effect on January 7, 2008, comprises of six chapters and 30 articles which stipulate the responsibility, tasks and power and the organisation of Vietnam’s marine police. It also specifies the State management of marine police as well as activities and policies for them.


The draft Ordinance on the Defence Industry, which became effective on January 7, 2008, has 7 chapters and 27 articles, which stipulate the principles, plans and policies for defence industry construction and development. It also defines the power and responsibility of agencies, organisations and individuals in managing and carrying out defence industry tasks.


The NA Standing Committee also agreed to organise the conference of full-time NA deputies for discussing bills only when necessary.


During the three-day session presided over by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, the NA Standing Committee gave opinions on a number of key issues related to draft laws that have been discussed at the second session and are expected to be approved at the third session of the 12th legislature.
