Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong extended New Year greetings during his visit to the Standing Office for the Prevention and Fight against Drugs (SOPFD) under the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi on January 22.

The deputy PM spoke highly of the SOPFD’s achievements in drug prevention and control work last year, emphasizing that this is a difficult and challenging job. He expressed his hope that the SOPFD will continue to help the Ministry of Public Security and the Government develop coherent policies on drug prevention and control work.

At the working session with deputy PM, colonel Tran Trong Luong, who is also head of the SOPFD, also briefed him on the SOPFD’s achievements last year, especially its active assistance in the successful organisation of the national conference to review 10 years of implementing the political bureau’s directive No 6 on providing instructions on drug prevention and control work.

In addition, it also co-ordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and relevant ministries to successfully organise four international conferences and seminars on drug prevention and control, which attracted more than 100 local and foreign delegates.

The SOPFD also proposed drafting a National Strategy on Drugs Prevention and Control in the 2010-2015 period with a vision for 2020.
