Under the plan, a national foreign news radio service will be formed with a total 20 hours per day and a national foreign news TV channel, VTV-World, will be gradually introduced broadcasting for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
By 2015, Vietnam hopes to provide satellite coverage to North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Oceania. By 2020, it will ensure global satellite coverage of all foreign news broadcasting programmes.
The national foreign news radio and television channels are scheduled to be on air 24 hours a day.
Foreign news radio and TV programmes that serve the public interest will be prioritised by the State for investment. They include programmes produced by Radio the Voice of Vietnam’s VOV5, Vietnam Television’s VTV4, VTC10 from VTC Digital Television and Vnews from the Vietnam News Agency.
The new services will broadcast programmes on numerous topics in many different languages including English, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish and Portuguese.
They will provide information on Party and State guidelines and policies, Vietnam’s potential for development and cooperation, Vietnamese land, its people, history, and culture.
They will focus on presenting Vietnam’s foreign policies and its viewpoints on regional and international issues, as well as providing regular updated news on the country’s foreign economic relations, investment environment, trade and tourism promotion and international integration.
