ASEAN Futsal Championship 2016 cancelled

The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) announced on October 21 that the 13th ASEAN Futsal Championship will be cancelled as no suitable host country is found.

The ASEAN Futsal 2016 was initially scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 8 in Thailand. However, as Thai King BhumibolAdulyadej passed away, Thailand decided to cancel all entertainment activities during one year to mourn the beloved King.

After Thailand’s withdrawal, AFF suggested Indonesia and Singapore to host, but both countries refused for different reasons.

The cancellation of ASEAN Futsal Championship 2016 affected the preparation of Vietnam Futsal team, who have practised two weeks for the event.

In early October, in the first participation in the World Cup, Vietnam Futsal team reached round 16 and received the Fair Play award.
