Vietnam wins KWN Best Script award

(VOV) -The Kids Witness News (KWN) has given its Best Asia Pacific Script award to the Vietnamese film "New Message", an exploration of communication through the perspective of five Hanoi Amsterdam Junior High School eighth graders and ‘ABCDEF’ team members.

The film depicts modernity’s excessive dependence on digital and mobile technology using characters who would rather SMS each other than talk in person.

Its authors were commended for the creativity and humour of their screenplay.

The New Zealand film Forever Emily was awarded the Best Film title.

Other prizes were given to films from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and India.

All seven winning films were screened at the award ceremony in Hanoi on December 18.

Panasonic Vietnam Representative Naoki Sugiura, whose company initiated the programme, said the event offers children the opportunity to experience the professional film-making process and prompts reflection on important environmental issues.

He hopes the contest will help nuture the talent, creativity, and communication skills of the younger generations.

This year’s contest received more than 1,900 scripts written by regional primary and junior high school students.
