The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) named Nippon Maru docked at Saigon port in Ho Chi Minh City on December 1, bringing ashore 319 young delegates from Japan and ten ASEAN member countries.

The ship departed from Yokohama port, Japan, on November 1 and travelled through Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand before arriving in Vietnam.

During their stay in HCM City, SSEAYP delegates will join local youths and students in many activities such as sight-seeing, cultural exchanges and homestay. They will also meet with former SSEAYP members who are living in the city.

Nippon Maru will leave for Tokyo, Japan, on December 4.

Based on the joint statements between the Japanese Government and the ten ASEAN countries, the SSEAYP aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among young people of Japan and ASEAN, and to broaden their perspectives on the world, as well as strengthening their creativeness in international cooperation through discussions, exchanges and other various activities.

The SSEAYP has arrived in Vietnam eight times.
