A high-raking Chinese military delegation led by senior lieutenant-general Liu Yong Zhi, deputy head of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)’s General Political Department, arrived in Hanoi on Nov. 2, beginning an official visit to Vietnam.

The visit was made at the invitation of Lieutenant-General Nguyen Tuan Dung, deputy head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army.

The Chinese guests held a working session with Vietnamese senior officials from the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army. Both sides exchanged information about the political and socio-economic situation in each country and shared their experience in the political and ideological education of officers and soldiers in the market economy. They discussed issues related to the soldiers’ role in rescue work to help people overcome the aftermath of natural disasters, as well as polices on officers and soldiers serving in the army.

Host and guest agreed to boost the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in various areas, thus consolidating the traditional friendship between the armies and people of Vietnam and China.

The same day, senior lieutenant-general Liu Yong Zhi also paid a courtesy visit to General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence and General Le Van Dung, head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army.
