Nation pays tribute to war invalids and martyrs’ families

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh visited and presented gifts to a number of social policy beneficiary families in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh district on July 26.

He made the visit on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Gift recipients included heroic Nguyen Thi Chi, a 102-year old resident in Lieu Giai ward and mother of martyr Luu Dac Hieu, and 83-year old war veteran Nguyen Van Luy in Vinh Phuc ward.

Mr Manh said that the Party, State and people were grateful to families of war invalids and martyrs and all those who have made great contributions to the past struggles against foreign aggressors, as well as the current process of national construction and defence.

Mr Manh also mentioned the need to pay more attention to living conditions for war veterans, invalids and families of fallen combatants. He asked authorities and social organisations at all levels to continue participating in “Paying debts of gratitude” movements and upholding the nation’s glorious revolutionary traditions.

*** In response to War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the Central Youth Union Committee coordinated with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to launch a week of “Paying debts of gratitude” from July 20-27.

During the week, incense offering ceremonies were held in many cemeteries nationwide. More than 560 gifts worth VND500,000 each were presented to social policy beneficiary families, VND20 million was also raised for a programme searching for the remains of fallen combatants.
