The Government will retain its key role in health care investment, particularly for poor people, in the next 10-15 years, said Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien in a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency.

The Government will increase the proportion of public funds for national health care in addition to State budget allocations for prioritised targets concerning geographical areas and income groups, the poor, under-six children and other beneficiaries of social policies.

Minister Chien said the Government will gradually implement a health care insurance policy for all people, particularly for poor people, people of ethnic minority groups in isolated and remote areas, under- six children and others.

The Minister added that the health sector will expand health care funds for the poor with an average spending of about VND70,000 per person a year and that will be raised in coming years.

Besides, the health sector will focus on strengthening the health care system at grassroots levels with a view to benefiting the poor, particularly women and children, in order to ensure equality in health care services.
