On January 9, the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC), in co-ordination with the German Red Cross (GRC), announced a EUR400,000 project to assist flood victims in the Mekong River Delta.

The project, which is sponsored by the German Government, will last from December 2011 until April 2012 and will be carried out in An Giang and Dong Thap provinces.

The project beneficiaries are flood victims, including poor households, people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women and children under five-years-old.

GRC Representative in Vietnam, Frank Kupper, said the project aims to increase the community’s capacity to cope with climate change in the future.
