Vietnam's footwear export turnover hit US$280 million in February, up 30.8 percent from last year, according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association.

Exports of handbags, suitcases, caps and umbrellas also jumped by 42.9 percent to US$40 million in February.

The footwear industry will face difficulties this year due to fierce competition, the lack of material sources and poor design patterns in addition to the European Union's anti-dumping tariff rate of 10 percent.

To cope with the situation, the association suggested its affiliates focus on making products using high-quality materials and continue seeking outlets.
