The Vice Director stated that Party organisations, leaders of the Project Management Unit (PMU) 18 and the Ministry of Transport and Communication must be held liable for allowing serious wrongdoings to occur, leading to grave consequences.

Mr Hung added that any individuals and organisations detected by the police to be committing any kind of misconduct or wrongdoing must be sanctioned according to State law and Party regulations, regardless of status or ranks.

The PMU 18 case, according to Hung, is a practical lesson for State inspection agencies and the work of fostering and developing strong moral character among Party and State officers, aside from building their capacity.

PMU General Director Bui Tien Dung was arrested in January on charges of embezzling of State property and illegal gambling, allegedly having gambled a total sum of nearly US$2 million on football matches in two months. His colleague, planning manager Pham Tien Dung, was also arrested on March 2 for intentional misconduct and bribery.
