A delegation from the Lao province of Xieng Khouang led by the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Somkot Mangnomek, has paid a working visit to Vinh Long province.

At a meeting with the Secretary of Vinh Long province’s Party Committee, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, the two sides gained a better understanding about their socio-economic situation and expand co-operation to exploit their potential and strength.

Leaders of Vinh Long province introduced its socio-economic achievements, potential, strength, and projects which need investment. Vinh Long lies in the centre of the Mekong Delta region and between two big rivers – Tien and Hau. It has two newly built bridges – My Thuan and Can Tho, which is very convenient for water traveling.

Mr Mangnomek said that Xieng Khouang is north-west of Laos and borders with Vietnam’s Nghe An province. Forest accounts for 90 percent of its total areas so the province is calling investment in cattle husbandry, tourism development, and processing of agricultural products and fruits.

The Lao Government has granted investment licenses to 16 Vietnamese businesses to operate in Xieng Khouang. The province also established ties with Nghe An and Son La provinces and wanted to become sisters with Vinh Long province, Mr Mangnomek said. He expressed his hope that Vinh Long will help his province to train officials in education, agriculture, and tourism.

On the same day, the Lao delegation joined a eco-tourism tour, visited Hoa Phu Industrial Zone and worked with the Hoa Phu Joint Stock Company, the Fine Art and Handicraft Import-Export Company and the Biofed Company.
