The 2007 national young Taekwondo championships closed on June 20 with Binh Thuan women’s team and Ho Chi Minh City men’s team taking first positions.

The Binh Thuan women’s team won four gold medals, two silvers and five bronzes, while Ho Chi Minh City men’s team bagged eight golds, four silvers and three bronzes.

The championships attracted 433 athletes from 12-17 years of age from 37 centres across the country. Athletes competed in 49 events for men and women.

The champs aim to evaluate the quality of training young athletes and select promising athletes to the national team to prepare for regional and international tournaments, including the Asia young Taekwondo championship in August.
