Government ministries, sectors and centrally-run municipal and provincial people’s committees have been asked to review their master plans regarding land use and management and to quickly address religious issues to harmonize national and religious interests.

The Directive 1940/CT-TTg, which has been issued by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, says that the use and management of houses and land involving religion must be in line with the law.

The PM underlined the principle that the Party and State respect and ensure religious organizations and followers’ rights to practise their religion in compliance with the law as well as their legitimate needs for housing and land for religious purposes.

Centrally-run municipal and provincial people’s committees are to address their needs on the basis of the State’s religious policy, their land use plans and available land funds.

The PM requested functional agencies be given instruction to step up the granting of land use certificates to religious establishments that meet the legal regulations.

He also warned that any attempt to exploit the land issue to stir public disorder, undermine national unity and engage in illegal acts will be dealt with strictly according to the law.
