Teachers and students from Trinity High School in New York, USA, who are on a fact-finding tour of Vietnam to explore the country’s history, culture and people, visited the Van Canh Friendship Village on June 26.

They will spend two days doing voluntary work at the village, which brings up child victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

During their two-week stay beginning on June 22, the students will make a tour of historic and cultural and tourist sites in the capital city of Hanoi, the World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay, the central city of Da Nang, the ancient town of Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and the Cu Chi underground tunnel system.

In a short interview with VOVNews, Andrew Kent Mc Carron, a teacher of the Trinity High School, said there remain misunderstandings about Vietnam in the US. He said that the war waged by the US in Vietnam 32 years ago has caused heavy consequences and that Agent Orange sprayed by the US army has caused lingering inter-generational effects on the Vietnamese people.

He expressed his hope that the young US students will understand and lend a helping hand to the Vietnamese children of those exposed to the toxic chemicals during the war.

There has been an increasing number of Americans, including young people and students, to visit Vietnam to see the rapid developments in the country. They want to find out detailed answers to queries raised about Vietnam during their studies at school.
